The Jennie Wade located at the Chilo Lock #34 Museum and Visitor's Center.

The Jennie Wade Riverboat is a replica of the flat bottom boats that traveled the inland waterways of the mid 1800's. Visitors to the center see visuals showing the area's history and attractions. Some of the center's historical photos tell the stories of the river people of Chilo.

The Jennie Wade riverboat is an ongoing restoration project that began in Gettysburg Pennsylvania in 1991.The project was moved to the Southern Ohio River Valley Region in 2002! The "Friends of Jennie Wade" applied for non-profit status in February of 2003 and was approved in June of 2003. The Jennie Wade Riverboat Media Center that they support serves as a regional welcome center, classroom and performance stage in the Ohio River Valley.

During her first two seasons, Jennie Wade

  • Promoted six river communities
  • Served six counties in Kentucky and Ohio
  • Welcomed and entertained over 5000 visitors
  • Introduced and promoted new regional projects
  • Acted as a classroom for students throughout the area.

    What is the Mission of the Friends of Jennie Wade?

    To maintain and continue to preserve

    Jennie Wade, a restored paddle boat.

    To develop a unique learning center for young and old alike.

    To serve and promote the Southern Ohio River Valley region.

    JUST SOME FACTS FOR YOU TO KNOW:

    Our budget is generated from individual and family memberships and corporate funding. In addition members, organizations and supporting sponsors are encouraged to utilize the facility for meetings, fund raisers or other activities related to their community. Individual memberships begin at a minimum of $10.00 and $20.00 for families. You are encouraged to give at the level your needs permit. The Friends of the Jennie Wade want you to join in with this project.

    We need members, organizations and buisness sponsors from the counties we promote. Those counties include Adams, Brown, Clermont, Hamilton and Sciota counties in Ohio and Bracken and Mason counties in Kentucky. With support from members, our budget for each season is met and our programs expanded. In addition we continue to seek grants and corporate sponsors to assist with specific improvements. This is a regional project, needing regional supporters. Please be one.
